We’re talking rising condensation, floating dust, and the occasional stray splash from a leak or a pressure washer. If you aren’t careful, your lamps will burn out way faster than they should.
Why moisture is a nightmare for infrared
Here is the problem. Most standard infrared lamps can’t handle a surprise shower. If a drop of water hits a red-hot quartz tube, the glass can just… snap. Thermal shock is a brutal thing. Then there’s the “fog.” That fine mist that hangs in the air? It loves to settle on electrical terminals. Once that happens, you get electrical tracking, which leads to an arc-over and a dead unit. Not exactly what you want to deal with on a Tuesday morning. To fix this, we built a housing that actually keeps the mess out. It’s a sealed chassis that pushes moisture away from the elements and the wiring. By keeping the electronics dry, we stop the short-circuiting before it even starts.
Making them actually last
It’s not just about slapping a cover on the lamp. We spent a lot of time on the seals. Why? Because the temperature difference between a scorching lamp and a freezing factory floor is huge. Without the right seals, you get condensation inside the lens, which defeats the whole purpose. When your elements aren’t fighting off corrosion or crusty mineral buildup from splashed water, they just last longer. Period. We’ve seen these units thrive in spots where unshielded heaters didn’t even make it through one winter.
A few things to keep in mind
Now, there’s a trade-off. Adding a protective shield means there’s a physical barrier between the heat and your floor. This shifts the beam angle a little. You might need to tweak the mounting height or tilt the unit just a bit to make sure the warmth is hitting your team exactly where they’re standing. And we had to be smart about airflow. If you seal a heater too tight, you fry the internal wiring. So, we added vented heat-sinks. They keep the electronics cool and happy while still keeping the water out. Simple, but it works.
