If you use the wrong glass, you’re basically putting a wall between your heat source and your fabric. That’s why we stick with high-purity synthetic quartz. Standard glass just blocks the infrared wavelengths you’re paying for. The science of why it works When we talk about “99.99% purity,” we’re really talking about getting rid of the junk—specifically iron and titanium. Here’s the problem: those tiny impurities act like sponges. They soak up the IR energy and turn it into heat inside the glass. Instead of that energy hitting your fabric, the tube itself gets way too hot. Eventually, the glass softens and starts to bow. Not ideal. With the high-purity stuff, the radiation just glides right through. You get more power on the material and way less wasted heat trapped in the housing. The real-world trade-off Look, these lamps cost more upfront. Refining quartz to this level isn’t cheap. But there’s a payoff. Your filaments last longer.
