
Why Your Bathroom Heater Shouldn’t Blind You
When we’re building infrared lamps for the bathroom, the biggest headache isn’t actually the heat. It’s the light. Standard short-wave lamps can be blinding. It’s that harsh, stabbing glare that makes you squint. And for babies, whose eyes are still developing and way more sensitive, that kind of light is just too much. We can’t have that. So, we tweak how the light behaves. Keeping eyes safe We use special quartz glass or internal coatings to scrub out the UV and the high-energy visible light. By shifting the focus to medium-wave infrared, the energy goes where it belongs—into your skin and the water droplets on your body—rather than hitting your retinas. It creates a “soft” glow. It’s not just to make the bathroom look fancy; it’s about stopping that eye strain that leaves you feeling tired. Dealing with the steam Bathrooms are brutal on electronics. You’ve got steam everywhere and the occasional direct splash. To stop the unit from short-circuiting or burning out early, we wrap everything in IP-rated housings. It’s basically a waterproof shield for the electrical guts. Inside, we use a tungsten filament tucked into a halogen-filled quartz tube. This lets us crank up the heat without the filament evaporating and popping too soon. The trade-off Here’s the catch: filtering the light isn’t free. When you block those frequencies to protect your eyes, you lose a bit of the raw thermal punch you’d get from an unfiltered lamp. You get a much safer light, but you might need a bit more wattage to feel that same cozy warmth. If you’re installing these for a big commercial job, just double-check that your circuits can handle the extra load. It’s a small price to pay for not blinding your guests.
