
Keeping Bathrooms Warm Without Blinding Your Kids
When we build infrared heaters for bathrooms, an IP55 rating is just the starting point. It’s basically the “don’t let the electronics fry when someone splashes water” rule. But if you’re putting these in a home—especially one with babies—the real headache isn’t the water. It’s the light. Standard shortwave IR lamps are aggressive. They blast out this blinding white light that’s just too much for a developing baby’s eyes. Dealing with the glare We don’t want you squinting every time you turn the heat on. To fix this, we mess with the spectrum. Instead of using raw, high-intensity radiation, we use filtered quartz tubes or specific halogen gases. Basically, we push the energy toward the long-wave or mid-wave range. You still feel that cozy heat on your skin, but the visible light stays dim. This isn’t about making the bathroom look “moody” or fancy; it’s about making sure you aren’t straining your eyes every morning. Staying cool under pressure Here’s the tricky part: an IP55 seal keeps water out, but it also traps heat inside the unit. To stop the heater from cooking itself, we use die-cast aluminum housings. They act like a giant heat sink. We also mount the lamps with high-temp ceramics so the frame doesn’t warp over time. Plus, we’ve tuned the wiring so the heat hits you almost instantly. You don’t have to wait for the whole room to warm up—you just feel it. The trade-off Now, there is a catch. Because we’ve toned down the glare, these lamps don’t have that raw, industrial “punch” you’d find in a factory drying line. To make up for that, we spent a lot of time on the reflector geometry. We shaped them to push the IR beam straight down where you actually need it. Just a heads-up: if you’re installing these in a bathroom with massive, high ceilings, you’ll probably want to bump up the wattage or mount them a bit lower. Otherwise, it might not feel quite as warm as you’d like.
