
Getting Your Glass Annealing Just Right
Making wine glasses is a bit of a balancing act. You have to get the heat exactly right to get rid of those internal stresses, or you’re just waiting for the glass to crack. The problem is, standard infrared heaters are kind of “one size fits all.” But if you’ve added specific chemicals to your glass mix, those standard heaters usually miss the mark. That’s where we come in. We tweak the IR emission so it hits the exact spot where your specific glass formula actually absorbs heat.
Stop Wasting Energy
Here is the thing: additives change how glass “feels” heat. If your heater is pumping out a wavelength that the glass doesn’t like, most of that energy just bounces off the surface. It’s a waste. We fix this by messing with the filament composition or adding special quartz coatings. Instead of heating up the air around the glass, the energy actually sinks into the material. It’s faster. It’s more even. And it actually works.
The Trade-off
Now, there is a catch. When you tune a lamp to hit a very specific peak, you usually lose some of that raw, total power. A narrow-band filter is way more efficient at getting heat into the glass, but it doesn’t put out as many total watts as a generic halogen lamp. You might need to slow down your conveyor belt a bit or add another heating zone to keep your timing where you want it. It’s a small tweak for a huge jump in quality.

The best part? You don’t need to rip out your entire setup. We build these lamps to be drop-in replacements for your existing annealing lehrs. If you’re using R7s or Sk15 bases, they’ll fit right in. The wiring and controllers stay exactly the same, but the physics change. Because we’re targeting the additives in your glass, you don’t have to worry about scorching the surface just to get the core warm enough. Less overheating. Fewer cracks.
