
Why we use explosion-proof quartz in bathroom heaters
Imagine this: you’ve got a heating element humming away at 800°C. Then, a single cold drop of water hits it. In a normal piece of glass, that’s a disaster. The sudden temperature drop causes the material to shrink too fast, and pop—it shatters. That’s why we don’t use standard glass for Mirror heaters. We use explosion-proof quartz.
Dealing with the heat
Now, quartz is already pretty tough when it comes to temperature swings. But “tough” isn’t the same as “invincible.” To make these lamps truly safe, we wrap them in a specialized safety mesh or a reinforced outer layer. Think of it as an insurance policy. If the inner tube ever does give way under extreme stress, the mesh keeps everything contained. You won’t have glass shards raining down on you while you’re in the shower. We use short-wave infrared technology here. It’s great because it doesn’t waste time heating up the air in the room first. It just sends the heat straight to you. It’s instant. It’s powerful. And it’s the only way to actually dry your skin and warm up a damp bathroom quickly.
The tricky part
Of course, pushing that much heat creates some challenges. When the internal filament gets that hot, it can wear out faster if the gas fill inside the tube isn’t exactly right. You also have to be careful with the housing. If the fixture is too cramped, the heat has nowhere to go. It just builds up until it starts melting plastic parts or trips the safety cutoff. Give the heat some room to breathe.
Getting it installed right
We’ve made these as simple drop-in replacements for most mirror heater frames, so the physical fit is easy. But here is where people usually mess up: the wiring. Moisture loves to creep into electrical sockets. You have to seal those connections tight. And please, don’t cheap out on the leads. Use high-temp wiring. If you use the cheap stuff, the insulation will basically fry itself within a few months of heavy use. It’s just not worth the risk.
