
Why Your Bathroom Heater Shouldn’t Blind You
Ever stepped into a bathroom and felt that instant, cozy warmth from a ceiling heater? It feels great. But there’s a tricky part to designing those things: you want the heat, but you definitely don’t want a blinding spotlight shining directly into your eyes—especially when you’re bathing a baby.
Taming the Light
Here’s the thing about standard infrared lamps: they usually put out a harsh, white light that’s way too bright. To fix that, we don’t just use a regular bulb. We use specialized quartz glass with a specific coating or a “doped” filament. Think of it like a pair of sunglasses for the heater. It blocks out the visible light that hurts your eyes but lets the heat waves slide right through. You get that warm glow on your skin, but the light stays soft. No glaring, no squinting, and no risk to sensitive eyes.
The Heavy Lifting
We try to pack as much heat as possible into a tiny space. To make that work without the bulb popping, we use high-purity quartz that can handle the sudden jump from freezing to boiling. We also add a reflector dish to push all that warmth straight down where you actually need it. But a word of caution on the power side. More wattage means you get warm faster, sure. But it also puts a lot of pressure on your home’s wiring. If you’re installing a few of these in one room, just double-check that your circuit breakers can handle the initial surge when you flip the switch.
The Trade-off
Since these sit right above your head, safety is a big deal. We build in guards and automatic shut-offs so the housing doesn’t get too hot to touch. Now, to be honest, the coating we use to block the light does make the heater a tiny bit less efficient than a clear tube. You might lose about 5% of the raw heat. But we’re okay with that. Keeping your eyes safe is way more important than a tiny bump in temperature.
